Nothing sucks more than the weather ruining your trip. For a lot of us, we only get a couple weeks of vacation time a year that we have to plan in advance and hope mother nature obliges. Sometimes she does, but sometimes she doesn’t.
As a former Florida native who is now pretty much landlocked, I miss the ocean all the time, and tend to plan trips around the ocean so I can get back in the water. When we took a birthday trip to 30A, getting back in the water wasn’t an option. Neither was getting any sun, or wearing any of the clothes we had brought. It happens, and while it can suck, it doesn’t have to.
Here are some foolproof ways to have fun even when the weather isn’t permitting.

1. Shopping
I love shopping regularly, and even more so on vacation. Small beach towns have some of the cutest spots to check out, and it’s the perfect rainy day activity. Plus, you can grab a souvenir umbrella or raincoat that you will absolutely use again.

2. Try Restaurants
Sometimes you can get so busy on your trip that you don’t think to try smaller or more niche spots in the beach towns. Rain is a great time to make a reservation or walk in somewhere that sounds interesting and maybe isn’t somewhere you would’ve gone otherwise. You’ll get a great story out of it too!

3. Read with a View
This one is subjective to where you’re staying, but if you’ve book a hotel with a view, you can grab a book, sit on your covered balcony or by the window, and read while taking in the town. There’s something magical about doing what you always do while being somewhere new.

4. Take a Drive
While it may not be sunny, you can still do some solid sightseeing. Hop in the car and drive around, stopping for good photos or interesting spots, and just taking it all in.

5. Nap!
If you’re anything like me, then this is a hard one. You’re in a new place, you want to explore! It’s natural. However, a vacation is just as much for adventure as it is for resting. Take a well deserved nap. Maybe when you wake up, the weather will be better and you’ll be feeling better.

6. Hit Up a Museum
Most towns have small museums or larger ones depending on where you’re headed. Snag some tickets and check it out.

7. Got to an Aquarium
Similarly, go to an aquarium! A lot of beach towns have aquariums, and you can still get your ocean fix walking around one as you would snorkeling at the beach. It’s a great way to pass the time.
What do you do to pass the time when the weather is bad at the beach? We’d love to hear your tips!
